A Walk through Paris, with Amaiò

Amaiò travelled across the Atlantic Ocean to attend Splash Paris, the most luxurious resort wear tradeshow in the heart of Paris. The tradeshow took place during Paris Fashion Week from September 29 to October 1, 2019, and we had the best time showcasing our highly anticipated new collections SS’20 and Cruise ‘20 (and seeing some old friends of course). Paris has always felt like home to us. Amaiò’s owner and designer, Samantha Khoury, spent her childhood years between Paris, Boston and the West Coast, so any chance to come back to the enchanting city is welcome.

Paris has a magical aura no other place can compare to, especially during fashion week. Paris is one of the fashion capitals of the world, founding iconic fashion houses such as Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Christian Dior (to name a few), so twice a year Paris Fashion Week is held for designers to showcase their spring/summer and fall/winter collections. That means this time of year Paris is a hub for all things fashion, where the most creative and talented designers gather from all over the world to celebrate beauty and fashion.

Paris Diary

Day 1

Bonjour Paris!

We arrived in Paris a day before the tradeshow began, which meant we were able to check into the hotel and do a little sightseeing before the hustle and bustle started!

There are a few things that are a "must see" in Paris: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe... to start.

We decided to start at the Arc de Triomphe which is even more stunning in person. That's one of the reasons Paris is so magical, every building and structure is so detailed and beautifully crafted.

Later in the day, to our surprise, the clouds cleared away and a perfect blue sky took over! A trip over to the Louvre was a must. As the world's largest art museum and a work of art itself, this was so spectacular to see!

As soon as the sun started to set, we instantly realized why Paris is known as the "City of Lights". Each cobblestone boulevard was lined with classic gas lanterns that added a whimsical romance to the streets. The buildings lit up and filled the sky line with a glimmering hue. The most astonishing lights of them all were those of the Eiffel Tower. Ritually, the Eiffel Tower is adorned with golden lights and every night at sunset they begin to sparkle for 5 minutes every hour on the hour. What a stunning sight it was to see the shimmering beads of light illuminating the sky 1,000 feet up.

We were so thankful to catch one of the beautiful light displays before heading back to the hotel. Then it was off to bed in anticipation of a successful show the next day!

Day 2:

(Trade)show time!

The sun shined bright as we arrived at the Splash tradeshow. The venue was at Port des Champs-Elysees, a lovely space right off of the Seine River in the heart of Paris. This day consisted of setting up our exhibit to showcase the lovely new pieces for premium buyers to come by and have a private one of one viewing of each piece. From there we worked with the buyers to help them choose which pieces they wish to purchase, timelines, and future projects.

There was a lovely array of all kinds of resortwear companies with their merchandise and product lines ready for buyers, along with bloggers, influencers, stylists and designers.

We set out our new pieces so they were ready for buyers to view. Our new SS'20 and Cruise'20 pieces are so gorgeous, as they were inspired by the beautiful french countryside, we just couldn't wait for everyone to see.

All of our campaign images were shot here in Paris, and in Loire Valley, a breathtaking region just outside of Paris, marbled with green rolling hills, gardens, wineries and Châteaux that once housed royalty. Even our fabrics are imported from France, so you could say we were feeling right at home!

Day 3:

A(nother) Splash of Paris

We spent the day at Splash again and exhibited a wide array of pieces to interested buyers. One of the crowd favorites was our new Blue Provence Floral fabric from our Spring Summer 2020 collection. We've used this fabric to create some beautiful Maillots detailed with a delicate draped mesh, and Tops that can be worn as transitional pieces. After the show, we took a couple buyers out for happy hour drinks, and to talk business.

We went to Chez Janous Bistro, a charming French bistro with a lively atmosphere and french cuisine to die for. This was the perfect setting after a long couple days of talking numbers and business. We filled our table with olives, fresh baguette, sautéed prawns and beurre, and a full bodied Bordeaux to wash it all down.

A successful day to say the least and the perfect way to end the day. We made it back to our hotel right on time to see the vibrant Parisian sunset.

Day 4

Au Revoir, Paris!

Our final day at the showroom at Splash Paris, meant our last chance to show off our new SS'20 and Cruise '20 pieces. Once the tradeshow floor shut down it was time to pack up and head back to the hotel as we had a long travel day back to Los Angeles the next day.

We took the long way back to the hotel as a last opportunity to take in the Parisian charm and enjoy the last few moments of the magical city. It was so sad to leave but we were very anxious to get home and get back to work. It had been such a delight meeting so many inspiring women and industry professionals. We were so inspired by the energy in Paris and so grateful to attend such a prestigious tradeshow with so many respected colleagues and professionals.

Au revoir Paris, until next time. <3
