Shop Local, Give Global Popup Success!

On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Women’s Global Empowerment Fund (“WGEF”) organized the multi-brand popup event, Shop Local, Give Global, in Venice, California, featuring brands that partner with WGEF.

People came to shop, eat, drink and most importantly donate to a good cause. The popup participants were Audrey Rose Jewelry, Honeydo Haircare, Haley Michelle Jewelry and also featured a DJ booth and Bloody Mary bar (which never hurts). Amaiò provided some major sales on bathing suits and Aprè swim, as well as donated 20% of all sales to WGEF.

WGEF is a non-profit organization that provides women in northern Uganda access to microcredit loans, business and leadership development training, literacy and health initiatives.

WGEF was founded on the belief that microfinance can be a revolutionary concept, and when bundled with educational programming, can build social capital and increase the potential for women’s empowerment and success. It is dedicated to female clients in its program who are working every day to create a better future for themselves and their children.

Karen Sugar founded WGEF in 2007, but before that she worked with homeless women and children in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a community organizer for reproductive rights in Denver, Colorado. She currently teaches and lectures in Colorado, nationally and internationally about microfinance, philanthropy, sustainable human development and women’s empowerment, and is the Executive Director of WGEF.

We are so thankful for our partnership with WGEF and for people like Karen who give women in third world countries a voice and opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have.
